Tuesday’s Brief: Encore Restaurants Taking Reservations, Spelling Champ Reminisces on Good Times, Cannabis Industry Working Session, Mayor’s Coffee Hour, Hidden in Plain Sight

9:30AM City Council Working Session: Equitable Regulation of Cannabis Industry. Members of the public are invited to stop by the Curley Room on the 5th floor of City Hall where the Committee will hold a working session on an ordinance establishing equitable regulation of the cannabis industry in the City of Boston, see additional information here.

9:30AM Mayor’s Coffee Hour at the Paul Revere Mall. Stop by the Paul Revere Mall to celebrate the re-opening with Mayor Walsh and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department as they host the 20th Annual Neighborhood Coffee Hour Series in local parks citywide.

6:30PM Hidden in Plain Sight at the Nazzaro Center. Stop by 30 North Bennet Street and join NEW Health and the Nazzaro Community Center for their event “Hiding in Plain Sight”. Past National Spelling Bee competitor from Boston recalls his prep for the big contest

Current North End resident Ross Garrity recently graduated with a Mathematics degree from UMass Amherst and is now working to earn his master’s in education from UMass Boston – but it’s his time as a National spelling bee competitor that he really cherishes and still has a keepsake from the 2008 citywide bee on display in his bedroom, read more on the Boston Globe.

Stop by 25 Parmenter Street as Melnea Cass, the “First Lady (or Mayor) of Roxbury” discusses how Rosa Brown helped guide her in her community organizing efforts. Cass is well known for organizing sit-ins over school segregation in Boston and leading the fights over urban renewal and highway constructions in the South End and Roxbury, see additional details here.

6:00PM Gala on the Greenway. Celebrate 10 years of the contemporary park in the heart of Boston at the Gala on the Greenway. The Greenway Conservancy will be hosting a memorable evening under the stars to celebrate and support the iconic public park, see additional information here.

6:00PM North End Public Safety Meeting. Join the Nazzaro Center at 30 North Bennet Street on the first Thursday of every month for the North End public safety meeting with Boston Police Area A-1.
