Faneuil Hall Announces “Summer Sampler” of Outdoor Events

From May to September, Faneuil Hall Marketplace will offer over 200 outdoor activities that are free and open to the public.

Visitors can play games, watch performances, learn about history, enjoy outdoor movies and more! See a list of Summer Sampler activities below.

Chess Lessons: Corey Tolbert teaches engaging lessons for players of every skill level. Lessons meet at the Chess Corner on South Market Street, just outside Uniqlo.

Blitz Chess Tournaments: Quick and friendly high-speed tournaments. Compete for glory (and prizes from our merchants!).

Story Tellers: On Tuesdays in July and August, our favorite professional storytellers perform free shows that are kid-tested and parent-approved. Find the fun on South Market Street outside Wagamama.

Rosalita’s Puppets: Rosalita’s Puppets will charm kids and adults with new productions every Saturday this summer starting in July. Find the show at 10:30 a.m. on South Market Street (outside Wagamama). Rosalita’s Puppets will move inside to the Rotunda in case of rain.

Kid’s Art: Make a creative project with our kid-approved instructors on Wednesdays. All materials provided. Find the class in our Outdoor Art Studio on South Market Street outside Uniqlo.

Community Mural Making with Karen Swyers: Kids (and kids at heart) are invited to join Karen Swyers on select Saturdays in July and August as she creates a 10′ x 5′ mural of Faneuil Hall Marketplace and other Boston landmarks. Karen will work with artists of all levels to create individual characters and items that will be incorporated into the larger piece.

POUND®: On Thursday, June 7, June 14 and June 21 POUND® comes to Faneuil Hall Marketplace! This cardio jam session is inspired by the infectious, energizing and sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums.

BollyX: On Tuesdays come down to Faneuil Hall Marketplace and move to the heart of pumping beats of Bollywood. BollyX is a Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines dynamic choreography with music from around the world.

Dance Nights: Do you love to dance, or do you want to learn to dance? Comedown to the Marketplace for a weekly series in September, featuring free lessons and live music! No partner necessary, and beginners are welcomed. Lessons from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm and dancing takes place from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Find us outside Wagamama on South Market.

Apres Work Painting: Enjoy a mid-week, after-work destress by learning a new painting technique or style. Find the class on Wednesdays at the Outdoor Art Studio on South Market Street outside Uniqlo.

Outdoor Games: There’s nothing like spending an afternoon at Quincy Market, taking in the sights, sounds and smells. Come play a game of ping pong, borrow a board game with friends and have fun. Games can be borrowed at the east end of South Market Street, outside Starbucks.

Reading Room: Sometimes visitors just feel like relaxing outside with a good book or newspaper and soaking up the sunshine. In the outdoor Reading Room, visitors can do just that while still being in the center of downtown Boston. Books are kindly donated by More Than Words, and can be purchased on site.

Historic Tours: Every Saturday, at 11 am, and on Mondays at 11 am in July and August, join historian Linda Perlman as she brings you back in time to 1826, when Quincy Market was opened to great fanfare to provide residents of Boston with a new food market as the city’s population was exploding. Linda will let you in on all the historic facts and lesser known tidbits that you won’t see or hear anywhere else

Drag Queen Bingo in June: Drag Queen Bingo occurs every Monday in June starting at 6:00 p.m. at Dick’s Last Resort. Bingo players can expect hilarious banter and innuendos by the night’s featured host. Drag Queen Bingo hosts include Amanda Playwith on June 4, Kandi Dishe on June 11, Violencia Exclamation Point on June 18 and Kris Knievil on June 25. Be on the lookout for a server that bears a striking resemblance to Beyoncé!

August Movie Series: The Movie Series are back at Faneuil Hall Marketplace and will take place every Thursday evening during the month of August. Beginning August 9, the West End will be transformed into an outdoor movie theatre where visitors have the opportunity to enjoy free movies beginning at dusk.

See the Faneuil Hall Marketplace calendar for more details.
