Mother’s Day at the North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center [Photos]

The ABCD North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center (NE/WE NSC) held its Mother’s Day party on Friday, May 11th.

Over 40 mothers and their spouses and friends turned out for a hearty, home-cooked meal of green salad, potato salad, chicken, pasta and cake, all lovingly prepared and served by NE/WE NSC staff and volunteers. The moms and everyone in attendance socialized, chatted, and relaxed as they enjoyed their meals, with no dishes to do afterwards! The NE/WE NSC staff and volunteers prepared the drop-in center for the celebration with festive homemade placemats and other decorations.

It was a lively atmosphere with a visit by City Councilor Lydia Edwards’ staff, who presented an award to Rosemary McAuliffe for her 50 years of service as an attorney. City Councilor Edwards generously donated plushy pink plants for all attendees. Robin Sidell of North Street Grille donated colorful tulips in shades of violet, pink, yellow, and white, which were a hit with the crowd. “What fragrant flowers for Mother’s Day!” one senior enthused.  The North End Rehabilitation and Health Care Center provided green goody bags filled with hard candies and chocolates, which Edmond Cormier brought. Victor Brogna, Advisory Board member, serenaded the moms on trumpet, including such sweet songs as “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.”
