Here are some local events to commemorate the 16th Anniversary of the September 11th attacks:

The USS Constitution will have a commemoration aboard “Old Ironsides”. Boarding of the ship will commence at 8:30 a.m. and will remain moored. The guest speaker will be Navy Nurse Corps Captain Mary Jo Majors, USN(Ret.), and she will be followed by witness accounts read by Constitution and Navy Recruiting District New England crew members. Free and open to the public.

Throughout the morning, Constitution crew members will fire one-gun salutes from a saluting battery located on the gun deck of USS Constitution and playing taps at the following times:

8:46 a.m. – Firing one-gun salute marking the impact of American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York.

9:03 a.m. – Firing one-gun salute marking the impact of United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York.

9:37 a.m. – Firing one-gun salute marking the impact of American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

9:59 a.m. – Taps played from USS Constitution marking the collapse of the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York.

10:03 a.m. – Firing one-gun salute, immediately followed by the playing of taps marking the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Somerset County, Penn.

10:10 a.m. – Taps played from USS Constitution marking the primary collapse of the stricken section of the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

10:28 a.m. – Taps played from USS Constitution marking the collapse of the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York.

9/11 Service Project on the Greenway Wharf District Parks (Between State and Milk Streets), 11-2pm
The Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund invites the public to take part in a care package service project to support active duty service members and veterans, as well as a pledge drive to support local Gold Star & Survivor (bereaved) military families. This event, at the Mother’s Walk on the Rose Kennedy Greenway in Boston, will offer you the opportunity to give back in a positive way on September 11th, now a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Activities will include building 500 military care packages for our service men and women overseas, writing letters of support to our troops, building care packages for our local veterans in need, and a pledge drive for the families supported by the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund.

Public Garden & State House
The annual wreath-laying ceremony will take place at 7:30 a.m. at the 9/11 memorial in the Boston Public Garden. On the lawn at 8:30 am, there will be a flag lowered with the reading of the victims’ names. At 9:30 am, there will the annual memorial service (in case of rain, the lawn events will be held inside the House chamber at the State House).

Fenway Park
The Red Sox, the American Red Cross, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center will host the 14th annual Day of Remembrance BloodDrive at Fenway Park from 7:30a.m. to 2:30p.m.
