Celebrate Constitution Day at Old North
Celebrate the printing of the Boston edition of the U.S. Constitution!
Old North Church & Historic Site will celebrate the 230th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. To mark this occasion, Gary Gregory, print master and founder of the Printing Office of Edes & Gill at Old North Church & Historic Site, has spent a year typesetting the Boston version of the U.S. Constitution. This event will mark the first time this document has been printed since 1787. Old North will hold a free, family-friendly event on Constitution Day, September 17, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. to commemorate this achievement and celebrate this piece of American history.
This event will focus on recognizing the importance of printing in colonial days and the skill, labor, and time that went into printing important documents like the Boston version of the U.S. Constitution. Visitors will hear from Gregory on his work typesetting the Constitution and will participate in hands-on activities such as quill writing, postcard stamping and typesetting demonstrations. Printed replicas of the Boston edition of the U.S. Constitution will be available for purchase throughout the day.
