Events on Thursday, August 10th:

10:00am Kids Artist in Residence Workshop at Christopher Columbus Park. The Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s annual ParkARTS program, sponsored by Holly and David Bruce, is pleased to announce the return of its series of children’s arts workshops. Participation is free but young children must be accompanied by an adult.

12:00pm Recruiting Sessions: TSA Boston is Hiring – West End Branch Library, Cambridge St. Located at 151 Cambridge St, Boston. Recruiting Sessions:  TSA Boston Is Hiring– Join us at this Recruiting Session to learn about career opportunities in a fast-paced dynamic environment with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at Boston Logan International Airport.  For more information, contact our office at BOS_Assessment@tsa.dhs.gov.

1:00pm NEAD Arts & Crafts at Mirabella Pool. Located at 475 Commercial Street,  North End Against Drugs will offer free Arts and Crafts Programs to the youth of the North End. A different craft will be offered each week as well as gymp and pot holder making.

5:00pm NEAD Benefit at JOI Salon. The Joi Salon on Lewis Wharf (2 Atlantic Avenue) is running a fundraiser for North End Against Drugs from 5pm – 8pm. There will be free light fare, raffles, etc. Stop by and treat yourself to some very inexpensive indulgences at the Salon and support NEAD’s programs.

5:30pm Boston Workplace Fitness. Cresa Boston would like to bring together employees in nearby offices to The Greenway to participate in a fitness program promoting wellness in the workplace. Located at Milk Street & Atlantic Avenue.

7:00pm NEWRA Monthly Meeting. Boston Police, The Beverly and an update on Government Center Garage. See the full agenda here.

Cambridge Moves To Restrict Short-Term Rentals

In the absence of a state strategy to regulate short-term housing rentals, the Cambridge City Council voted Monday night to require hosts to live in the same or an adjacent building as part of a new set of rules designed to protect the city’s scarce affordable housing market. Read more on WBUR.

GE delays plan to open new Fort Point building

General Electric Co. has pushed back the expected opening of its new building overlooking Fort Point Channel by two years after deciding to break the headquarters project into two phases. The Boston Globe has the story, including photo renderings.

[August 11, 12 & 13] Madonna Della Cava Feast at Hanover & Battery Streets in Boston’s North End. The Madonna Della Cava Feast opens at 7:00 pm on Friday; 12pm-11pm Sat. & Sun. on Hanover & Battery Streets (1:00pm Sunday Procession).

1:00pm Movie at North End Library. The North End Branch of the Public Library on Parmenter Street is starting a Friday Movie Club. Following the movie there will be light refreshments and a discussion about the movie. Feel free to bring your lunch too. This week’s movie: Top Hat, view the event posting.

1:00pm #PictureQuincyMarket – Social Photography Workshop at Quincy Market. Learn to take your Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook photography to the next level with three lunchtime workshops taught by staff from Artists for Humanity. Space is limited, so please pre-register!

2:00pm Bead-dazzled (Beading) at the North End Library. Located at 25 Parmenter Street, learn to create a beautiful beaded bracelet that you can wear or gift! Please call the library at 617-227-8135 to reserve a spot. View the event posting.

5:00pm Berklee Summer Concerts at the Greenway. Berklee returns to The Greenway for another summer series of Concerts at the Greenway. Join us every Friday in July and August from 5p-7p for live music performed by Berklee students in our beautiful North End Parks. This week’s performer: Self Portraits, a female-fronted rock band from Berklee College of Music.

6:00pm Friday Afternoon Concert Series. Fridays in July and August, this concert series will showcase local music, located at Sam Adams Park.

6:30pm Crosstown Live Music in North Square. The local band “Crosstown” will perform live in North Square on four Fridays: August 11, 18, 25 and Sept. 1
6:30-8:30pm, weather permitting.

7:30pm Outdoor Movie: “Casablanca” at Rowes Wharf, Boston Harbor Hotel. The story of Rick Blaine, a cynical world-weary ex-patriate who runs a nightclub in Casablanca, Morocco during the early stages of WWII. When Ilsa, a former lover of Rick’s, and her husband, show up to his cafe one day, Rick faces a tough challenge. The movie starts at dusk.

Saturday, August 12

11:00am Greenway Open Market. The Greenway Open Market is a vibrant open-air artisan market featuring talented area artists, crafters, and independent designers. Visitors will find exceptional art, locally produced products, and much more! Located at the Rings Fountain, Milk Street.

12:00pm Lawn Games at Christopher Columbus Park (West Lawn). Saturday Lawn Games on the West Lawn (corn hole, croquet and more!) — Noon to 4p.m. Brought to you by Friends of Christopher Columbus Park!

1:00pm Colonial Leather Working – Paul Revere House. Find out how colonial era leather workers fashioned scabbards, sword belts, and harnesses. Fred Lawson demonstrates and invites visitors to try their hands at punching holes and sewing leather. 1pm – 3pm at the Paul Revere House, 14 North Square.
