Six Candidates Running for Neighborhood Council (NEWNC); Video Introductions

There are six candidates for North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) running in what will be an uncontested election on Saturday, May 20th. The candidates are:

  1. Carmine Guarino*
  2. Sean Hennessey*
  3. Tina Natale
  4. Ashley McCarthy
  5. Tania Green
  6. Damian DiPaola

*Incumbent

With the same number of open seats as candidates, all six will be able to serve on the Neighborhood Council. NEWNC by-laws no longer allow write-in candidates on election day. Seven residents submitted papers but one was found not to have 40 valid signatures as required by NEWNC by-laws.

Candidates were given the opportunity to introduce themselves to the community at the May 8th NEWNC meeting. Candidate remarks can be viewed in the above video.

The six candidates will be elected for a 2-year term and join the other current six members that have one year left remaining in their term. The other six standing members on the 12-person council are Michael Bonetti, Danielle D’Ambrosio, John Pregmon, Gennaro Riccio, Brett Roman and Marie SimboliIncumbents who are not running for re-election include Philip Frattaroli, Jorge Mendoza and Ralph Verrocchi.

NEWNC’s annual election is on Saturday, May 20, 2017, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Nazzaro Community Center, 30 N. Bennet Street, North End, Boston. All North End / Waterfront residents (Ward 3, Precincts 1, 2, 3, and 4), age 18 and older, are eligible to vote in this year’s election. Bring proof of residence.

  1. I agree with Phil Orlandella…I don’t see the point of holding an election to fill six vacant seats if you only have six candidates who will all win by default Seems like a big waste of everyone’s time!

  2. What a colossal waste of time. State elections allow write ins, that’s why Rep Michelwitz is on the ballot. NEWNC doesn’t. What a joke!
