Thursday’s Briefing: Snow Emergency, Pats Dinner, Chiofaro’s Ruling

*SNOW ALERT*

The National Weather Service has issued a weather storm warning, in effect from 6 am to 8 pm Thursday. Snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches are expected. Temps will be bitterly cold, falling to 17˚ by 5 p.m., low of 9˚ later at night. High wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph in the afternoon. There will be a windchill of -7˚. Boston Public Schools are closed tomorrow. A snow emergency and parking ban starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday. More at boston.gov/snow.

Boston waterfront building rules to get final city test

The Boston Planning & Development Agency is on the verge of approving Don Chiofaro’s long-awaited skyscraper that will stand 600 feet along Boston Harbor. The plan to redevelop Harbor Garage will be required to include more open space at the street level from the BPDA, The Boston Globe has more on the story. (Update: The February 9th BPDA meeting has been cancelled due to the snow storm.)

One Canal Accelerates Change In A Historic Neighborhood [+video]

The One Canal complex in the Bulfinch Triangle is up to 89 percent occupancy among their 320-units. The 12 story building stands above the Greenway and boasts rent prices that range from $3,463 to $9,328 per month. Banker & Tradesman has the story.

6:00pm James Ring Book Signing & Presentation. Ring is a retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent who investigated the American La Cosa Nostra and the Sicilian Mafia in New England. Ring received the Department of Justice’s highest award as the architect of the first and only electronic interception of the La Cosa Nostra/Mafia induction ceremony of new members, including the Omerta oath. Located at I AM Books, 189 North Street.
