On behalf of the Lewis Wharf Hotel project opposition group, Sydney Asbury spoke to the North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council asking them to submit a letter to the Massachusetts Dept. of Environmental Protection supporting their ruling of new development not being able to extend over pilings or piers that are below water at high tide.
Most of the pilings at Lewis Wharf are not visible at high tide, which would drastically reduce the size and scope of the proposed hotel build area. These findings are only “draft” until the public comment period is concluded, which will be November 21, 2016. Asbury asked NEWNC for their support, pointing out that the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) agreed to issue a letter at their recent meeting.
In addition to the support from NEWRA, the project has received overwhelming opposition from neighborhood residents, including 1,100 people who signed a petition opposing the project.
