It all began fifty years ago in Kilkenny, Ireland, when Father Gabriel Troy was ordained to the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Boston. His ultimate goal was to join the Missionary Society of St. James the Apostle, but first he must serve one year in a parish in Boston so that he might become accustomed to parish life.
After serving his obligatory year at St. John the Evangelist, Cambridge, he joined the Society and began a twenty seven year tour in Peru where working with the poorest of the poor, he developed many parishes, schools, medical facilities, and a rehabilitation center for young drug addicts.
Father Gabe was then elected by his fellow priests to become the Director of the Society for six years and this would require his return to Boston at the Center House in the North End.
Upon his completion of thirty three years with the Society, Father Gabe returned to the Archdiocese of Boston and for seven years he was Pastor of St. Josephs in the West End of Boston and for the past ten years he has been the Pastor of St. Mary of the Annunciation in Cambridge.
This past year, Father Gabe celebrated his Golden Jubilee as a priest.
