ABCD Holds Independence Day Party With State Street Volunteers

State Street High School Volunteers with Maria Stella Gulla Director NE WE NSC

The ABCD North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center (NE/WE NSC) held its Independence Day Party earlier this month. NE/WE NSC staff, volunteers, and a special group of high school volunteers from State Street Corporation gathered the seniors at Copp’s Hill Terrace to enjoy a traditional picnic of burgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, watermelon, cupcakes, and ice cream sandwiches, all prepared by the center’s new cook, Faruk Yeasin, and a dedicated group of regular volunteers.

Maria G. Del Vecchio, Assistant Vice-President of Workforce Development and Talent Acquisition of State Street Corporation, both led the group of young folks and pitched in alongside them to get the picnic underway. She enthused, “State Street gives back to the community and with the help of Boston high school area students we are assisting the ABCD staff and learning the history of this community. I am foreseeing that we will be helping in future events.”

There were over three dozen seniors in attendance, some of which opted to relax in the shade and others who wanted to catch a bit of sun! The weather was mild and it was an absolute phenomenal setting to enjoy one another’s company and to literally get out of the same four walls. Special guests included Representative Aaron Michlewitz, who visited with his constituents and passed out flags in celebration of the day. Also in attendance was Gisella di Paola, Vice President of Eagle Bank, who has newly joined the Advisory Board for the NE/WE NSC.

What the NE/WE NSC clients said about the party:

Recently, the ABCD North End / West End NSC gave us a 4th of July party outside. We had a lovely time and the weather was great. Maria Stella, our director, had volunteers who served us the food. We never had to move from our chair – we had a great and relaxing time. We look forward to another party outside. We thank all of those who worked on the party and gave us a very happy 4th of July celebration.

The 4th of July weekend cookout at Villa Michelangelo was fantastic. The hardworking ABCD staff along with interns from State Street Financial rolled out the red carpet. We enjoyed ourselves at the Copp’s Hill Terrace overlooking the Harbor. The food was plentiful and delicious. Everyone received a raffle prize. The ABCD staff’s efforts filled with enthusiasm.
