North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) provided an update on the status of the public process around the proposed proposed Lewis Wharf hotel project.
The Lewis Wharf project remains in the proposal stage of the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s Article 80 process. The developer is expected to come back in the Summer 2016 with a Draft Project Impact Report that will restart the public process, including meetings and a 75-day comment period.
A bit of new information mentioned is that a study is ongoing regarding the actual build ability on the Lewis Wharf piling field given the current environmental conditions as well as Chapter 91 requirements detailed in an October 2015 letter by Boston Harbor Now.
NEWRA has created an informational website on North End projects and the Boston Redevelopment Authority process. President Ford Cavallari introduced how NEWRA is tracking the projects. Presenting for the NEWRA Executive Committee was Jennifer Crampton, Impact Advisory Group member on the LW project and NEWRA Secretary (05:20 in video). Also speaking at the meeting was Jason Aluia (10:30 in video) who is another member on the LW IAG.
NEWRA released two comment letters that it previously submitted to the BRA and State officials, linked on its website. To date, NEWRA members have not voted on the development project.
The Boston Redevelopment Authority has issued a scoping determination asking the developer to come back with more information and analysis in a Draft Project Impact Report. The report is expected in the Summer 2016. A series of public meetings and a 75-day comment period will commence at that time.
