St. John School Annual Science Fair

DSCN8985St. John School hosted our annual science fair this past week. Our 5th – 8th grade students presented their experiments to an audience of their peers along with their parents and a host of judges including our science teacher, Dr. Anne King and several members of the Coast Guard.

The Science Fair gave our students a chance to investigate and explore topics that they found interesting. Awards were given out for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners as well as two honorable mention winners. This year’s winners were Isabella Marashi, Vincent O’Byrne, Afia Bottari, Ariana Rodd and Nick Seaver.

Some of the experiments included:

  • The Science of Rock Candy
  • Interactive Lung Model
  • Be an Archeologist
  • Dissolving Bath Bombs
  • Reactions: What Substances React with Baking Soda?
  • How Does Heart Rate Change with Activity?
  • Do Some M&M’s Melt Faster than Others?
  • What Helps Oil Mix with Water? and

Our budding scientists did a great job. Take a look at some of the pictures to see their experiments!
