Commercial Street Construction Ongoing for Cycle Track Installation

Connect Historic Boston and the associated cycle track is well along in its construction along Commercial Street. To date, work has been focused on subsurface work, according to Boston Public Works. Drainage work has been ongoing in front of the US Coast Guard building as well as 295 Commercial Street, near Union Wharf.  Test pits for signal equipment will be ongoing at Foster/Hanover/Foster Streets.

On Commercial St. in April and May 2016, curb excavation at the landside intersections will be ongoing, moving from Charter to Fleet St.  New mast arms will be installed at these locations. At the intersection of Commercial and Atlantic, test pits will be performed.  At the Eastern Avenue intersection (between Lewis and Sargent’s Wharf), drainage structure installation will be completed.

Also in late April, work will begin west of Charter Street in front of the Prince Street Park to realign curbing and begin installation of the cycle track. Traffic signal work will continue at Battery Street and Battery Wharf.

Construction will result in temporary and eventually permanent traffic changes and sections of no parking. Weekly segment updates are available at the Public Works website.
