Ahhhh, November has arrived. With winter on the horizon and Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, we are well into the final stretch of 2015. Below are the neighborhood events for this upcoming work week!

Tuesday, November 3

7:00pm Parks Committee (NEWRA) Meeting at Mariner’s House, 11 North Square 2nd Floor

Wednesday, November 4

6:30pm North End Library – Fabulous Fifties Presentation [25 Parmenter Street] The North End Branch Library Presents: Back by Popular Demand Krisanthi Pappas Jazz/Pop Vocalist & Songwriter. Join us for an evening of a mix of beautiful melodies of the “FABULOUS FIFTIES.”

6:00pm North End Public Safety Meeting – Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet Street

7:00pm Urban Renewal Discussion at West End Museum
Boston’s Urban Renewal Plans: Time’s Up! A Conversation with Shirley Kressel In the heyday of urban renewal for the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA). These urban renewal plans, meant to last for 40 years, are now expiring. The BRA persuaded the City Council to grant a 10-year extension in 2005. Now, the BRA is seeking a second 10-year extension. Why does the BRA want to hang on to these plans when the law intended them to expire? The event is free and open to the public, registration is required.

Friday, November 6

On This Day: “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald Elected to Congress
On this day in 1895, a colorful Irishman from Boston’s North End, nicknamed “Honey Fitz” for his charming and loquacious ways, was elected to the U.S. Congress. Ten years later, his successful bid for Mayor rattled the Yankee establishment. He worked on behalf of the poor, immigrants, and workers, but his administration was rife with graft, cronyism, and corruption. His namesake, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, would be the 35th President of the United States, read more.

6:00pm NEWNC 30th Anniversary Celebration at Filippo’s [283 Causeway St, Boston] Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Boston’s oldest continuous and existing neighborhood organization – North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council, NEWNC. All are welcome. Tickets are $25/person to cover expenses for the function. Please RSVP.

6:30pm FOCCP Gala at Boston Harbor Hotel
