Save Our North End Waterfront to Raise Issues at Impact Advisory Group Meeting

Organizing Group Calls on Boston Redevelopment Authority to Listen to Neighbors

BOSTON, MA, September 9, 2015Members of Save Our North End Waterfront, a community-organizing arm opposed to the proposed Lewis Wharf hotel project, will raise significant issues at the Impact Advisory Group (IAG) meeting tomorrow, Thursday September 10, at 6:30 pm at the North Bennett St. School in Boston’s North End.

Save Our North End Waterfront has held dozens of organizing meetings and collected over 600 signatures so far from fellow neighbors who feel that a large-scale luxury hotel is not appropriate in a residential community. Voicing neighborhood concerns is critical in this case given that the BRA appears to be moving the development process along quickly. Last month and this Thursday, the BRA held an unprecedented IAG meeting to allow the developer to make their pitch before officially filing their detailed plans with the BRA and without publicly announcing this meeting to neighbors and residents.

“As a North End resident, I am uncomfortable with a process that only includes the developer and the IAG, and attempts to limit input from neighbors of the proposed project,” said Michael Malm, an organizer with Save Our North End Waterfront. “The BRA should be considering the wants and needs of the neighborhood, rather than promoting development just for the sake of development.”
