Residents’ Association “Not Opposed” to Residential Conversion of Former Butcher Shop

The North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) voted 23 – 3 to “not oppose” a zoning change proposal at 27-29 Fleet Street. After introductions and reports from President Ford Cavallari, Attorney Bill Ferullo and building owner Christopher Young began their presentation of the proposed renovation.

The zoning and licensing application calls for a change of occupancy at 27-29 Fleet Street where the owner is hoping to renovate the building, adding an additional unit to the building that currently has four residential units. The fifth unit will come from the conversion of ground floor commercial space into a residential unit that will occupy both the ground floor and basement, making a single apartment two-floor duplex.

The property is located at the corner of Fleet and Moon Streets, the storefront previously housed a butcher shop and the space has been vacant and “underutilized”.

Reminder: NEWRA would like to remind residents that their annual Summer Party is on Wednesday August 19th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the Pilot House, 2 Atlantic Avenue.

  1. It’s sad to see another of our North End storefronts lost to residential development. I suppose it’s inevitable but the street life of the neighborhood will be diminished.

  2. Thanks Matt. I suppose I knew that already, I’m just sad to see another storefront go too. Thanks.
