Events: Multiple Movies, NEWRA’s Summer Party, Open Mic Night, the Tailor’s Craft and More!

North End

Before the rest summer flies right by, take a second to plan on attending some neighborhood events. Below is a list of events this week that has something for everyone!

Tuesday, August 18

6:30pm NEMPAC Open Mic Night on the Prado & Student Performances!
Open Mic on the Prado, featuring guest musicians Jack Byrne and Sarah Troxler.

Wednesday, August 19

6:00pm “Hedgehog” Movie at North End Branch Library [25 Parmenter Street]
Paloma is a serious and highly articulate but deeply bored 11-year-old who has decided to kill herself on her 12th birthday. Fascinated by art and philosophy, she questions and documents her life and immediate circle, drawing trenchant and often hilarious observations on the world around her.  The event is free, for an adult audience, more information on the movie.

6:30pm NEWRA’s Summer Party at Pilot House, 2 Atlantic Avenue
The North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) will have their annual summer party.  All North End / Waterfront residents are invited to this free social event.  NEWRA’s mission is to maintain and enhance the quality of life in our neighborhood – but the mission on the 19th will be music, food, and drink! 7:00pm “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” Movie Night at the Gassy, DeFilippo Playground
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” is the movie of the week and will start at dusk on Prince Street. Pizza at 7pm and movie starts around 8pm. Thanks to Pizzeria Regina – bring your chairs and blankets!

Thursday, August 20

5:00pm Chess with a Grandmaster at Faneuil Hall Marketplace
Do you consider yourself a decent chess player? If so, come prove your skills against a chess Grandmaster. On the third Tuesday of each month, Larry Christiansen of the Boylston Chess Club will play 25 games simultaneously. This event is first come first serve, so be sure to arrive early to play!

Friday, August 21

10:00am Kids Fitness at Faneuil Hall Marketplace
Bring your children to Faneuil Hall Marketplace for a fun fitness series (parents, don’t be shy to jump in too). Get the opportunity to try yoga, Zumba and many other great classes! Join us in the South Market near Wagamama on Fridays from 10am to 10:45am.

12:00pm Afternoon Concert Series at Sam Adams Park [Faneuil Hall]
“Riverside Theater Works” will be performing as part of the 2015 Friday Afternoon Concert Series lineup. From July 10 – August 21, 2015, each Friday a different local band will perform live from 12pm-2pm in Sam Adams Park (Faneuil Hall). The event is free!

6:00pm “Now Voyager” Movie at Rowes Wharf – Boston Harbor Hotel
Boston spinster blossoms under therapy and finds impossible romance, more information on the movie.

Saturday, August 22

10:00am British Car Show at Faneuil Hall Marketplace
The Boston Area MG Club is holding three British Car Shows this summer at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Head on over to Merchants Row where you can check out a variety of unique, antique cars and chat with their owners! This year, the Boston Area MG Club will be accepting donations for Autism Speaks at each show.

1:00pm Paul Revere House: The Tailor’s Craft [19 North Square, Boston]
Clothing historian Henry Cooke takes on the role of an early Boston tailor. Watch as he “takes the measure” of visitors, then sits cross-legged, fashioning waistcoats from luxurious fabrics and “slops” from coarse weaves. View more events at the Paul Revere House.
