DeFilippo Playground, or “the Gassy” was far from frozen on Wednesday night, but dozens of neighborhood kids and families packed the park to watch the Frozen movie on a humid July evening. Before the start of the movie, Steven Virgilio and Pizzeria Regina were recognized for their generosity to the movie night summer programs.

Virgilio started movie nights in the Gassy ten years ago, with the help of Regina’s donating pizza and a projector, the events have drawn heavy neighborhood crowds ever since.

City of Boston Neighborhood Liaison Maria Lanza and State Representative Aaron Michlewitz both presented citation’s to Regina’s and Virgilio, thanking Pizzeria Regina for their generosity and acknowledging the effort put forth from Virgilio.

A citation was also presented to Steven Virgilio for starting this program 10 years ago.

After ten years of organizing movies in the Gassy, the planning of the events will be passed along to Becca Griffin, who is “a perfect fit” according to Virgilio.

Be sure to keep an eye out for these Wednesday movie nights that will be running all summer. The next movie night will be “Rocky” on Wednesday August 5th!
