North End restauranteur, Frank DePasquale, has announced that the new Mare Oyster Crudo and Seafood Bar will open on July 29, 2015 in the redeveloped space formerly occupied by Ida’s Ristorante. The new location at 3 Mechanic Street (off Hanover next to Bricco) will feature a dining room for 60 with a patio that seats another 70 guests featuring fire pits and a retractable roof.
“Mare has been such a great success over the past decade and we felt that the new location will allow us the additional space and outdoor seating that would fit well with a seafood restaurant,” explains owner Frank DePasquale. “So, we have reconcepted Mare to fill this need. The white marble walls and stunning patio with fire pits that overlooks the Boston skyline will just enhance the Mare dining experience.”
The new Mare include an outdoor patio lounge and a crudo bar to compliment the oyster bar, under the direction of Italian chef Nello Caccioppoli, formerly of Umbria Prime and Bricco. The new menu focuses on a locally-sourced oyster program, fresh and innovative crudo dishes including shrimp dishes, Alaskan king crab, a specialty octopus salad, and a signature Hot or Cold Lobster Roll served in a homemade brioche roll from De Pasquale’s Bricco Panetteria. The beverage menu still contains a selection of organic wines as well as a beer list that is significantly expanded, focusing on local brews and cordials.
The restaurant will open in the new space on Wednesday, July 29th and will be open daily for dinner at 5p and on Friday through Sunday for lunch and dinner. Featuring LED lighting, the indoor/outdoor bar area will carry through into an interactive dining experience that connects the indoors with the outside patio which seats a total of 120 guests in both spaces. The outdoor patio features lounge seating, fire pits, and a retractable awning that was ordered from Florence, Italy.
The former Mare space on Richmond Street will be re-concepted and renovated and will be turned into an Italian small plates wine bar called Sfizi. It is slated to open in early Fall 2015. For more information on Frank DePasquale’s Mare and other eateries, see www.depasqualeventures.com.
Covering the off-ramp from the tunnel would do wonders for the ambiance (I realize this is a City decision), I really hope this isn’t overwhelmed by exhaust and car noise. Otherwise I am excited to try it.
