Boston Fire Department responded to North Bennet Street where smoke was visible but no flames, at least from the exterior. The vacant building is under construction for the expansion of the BPS Eliot K-8 Innovation School. Unconfirmed word from from the scene attributes the accident to a welding fire. Evidently they have removed much of the wood framing to the building and are replacing it with steel. One fireman left on a stretcher.
Located near the historic Old North Church, the property was also the scene of a recent break-in as reported by Boston Police. Steve Ayres shares these photos from the scene on Tuesday around 8:30 a.m.
