Getting a jump on the July 4th festivities, the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) put on a family friendly event to celebrate Independence Day at the waterfront park, Saturday June 27th. Uncle Sam on stilts is always a hit during the kids parade around the park. Free American flags were handed out to all participants, who covered just about every age category. Popular performances were given by Jenny the Juggler, Peter the Magician, the Minions and the bubble guy. NEMPAC’s musical petting zoo and the New England Aquarium’s exhibits were two of the tables with kids activities. Lawn games such as the bean-bag toss, tic-tac-toe toss, and hula hoops completed the day to celebrate America’s birthday.

Thank you, Matt, for covering this day. It was by far, one of the best celebrations we’ve had to date. Many thanks to all who showed up. Here’s hoping all the adults and kids had as much fun as the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park volunteer’s did making it happen.
Kudos to Ann Babbitt, our vice president, and MaryGaye Grizwin, co-chairs, for a wonderful party.
Now for the Harbor Cruise, Sunday night movies, NEMPAC music Thursday’s and the Columbus Day celebration.

I just wanted to congratulate the entire committee of individuals who donated their time to create a wonderful pre-July 4th celebration for the children who attended The Christopher Columbus Park celebration.
It was my first time, admittedly due to the arrival of grandchildren from California who are now living in Mass. I was so impressed with the entire day. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make this a memorable day for all the children.
I regret that I haven’t joined the Friends previously, but will be signing up for membershipbased on our family’s exposure to the celebration.
