North End Public Safety Report & Crime Stats as of June 4, 2015

The June 2015 North End Public Safety Meeting was held Thursday, June 4, at the Nazzaro Center.  The meeting was introduced by the Chair of NEWRA’s newly-created Public Safety Committee (in conjunction / coordination with NEWNC), David Marx, along with District A-1 Captain Ken Fong, Sgt. James Chin and Officer Teddy Boyle. Also in attendance were Boston City Councilor Sal LaMattina, the Regional Review’s Phil Orlandella, NorthEndWaterfront.com’s Matt Conti and NEWNC’s Maria Lanza.

The most notable incident that took place during the 30 days prior to the meeting was the much-publicized (via the local news, as well as on this website) drug-related armed robbery that took place at 77 Endicott St. at around midnight on the evening of Friday, May 22.  Cpt. Fong discussed the sequence of events that lead to the arrest of one of the suspects in the ongoing investigation.

Within the 30-day period leading up to the meeting, there were 2 robberies and 10 larcenies (2 of which were from motor vehicles).  There was also 1 aggravated assault.

Of the 8 non-motor vehicle-related larcenies, 4 of them involved stolen bicycles.  A couple incidents involved wallets and cell phones stolen from patrons personal belongings while at business establishments (e.g. restaurants).

Overall, 5 arrests were made during this time period.

The arrests pertained to an assault with a deadly weapon in regards to a road rage incident at the corner of Salem and Stillman St., the aforementioned armed robbery at 77 Endicott St., car break-ins on Commercial Wharf, a shoplifting incident at CVS and an arrest for an outstanding warrant.

A resident asked about the usage of Narcan as a tool to prevent deaths from drug overdoses.  Cpt. Fong stated Boston police officers will be trained on how to use Narcan and begin offering it this Fall.

Year-to-Date, Part 1 crime within District A-1 is down ~ 27% (compared to an overall crime drop of ~ 20 Citywide).

The next North End Public Safety Meeting will be held on Thursday, July 2.
