Monday, January 19

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

1:00pm Free Celebration in Honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Faneuil Hall
The City of Boston and the Museum of African American History will join with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras’ Intensive Community Program to honor and celebrate Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Faneuil Hall on Monday, January 19, 2015, starting at 1 p.m. The program will feature a keynote speech by Boston’s Poet Laureate, Danielle Legros Georges, spoken word tributes to Dr. King, and a moving selection of classical music, spirituals, and freedom songs performed by the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras’ Intensive Community Program, conducted by Marta  Żurad. A distinguished group of community leaders will read from some of Dr. King’s most memorable writings and speeches. Speakers include Eric Jackson, Host of 89.7 WGBH’s Eric in the Evening; Julie Burros, Chief of Arts + Culture for the City of Boston; and Alisa Magnus, Alumna of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras Intensive Community Program. This event is free and open to the general public. See the event announcement.

6:00pm Meeting: BFD Marine Unit (Burroughs Wharf) Improvements at Nazzaro Center, 30 North Bennet Street

6:00pm Abutters Meeting at Battery Wharf Hotel, 3 Battery Wharf
A meeting of the abutters of the Battery Wharf Hotel Boston Waterfront, will be held in the conference room at the hotel to discuss an upcoming application by the hotel for an all alcoholic beverages innholders license. All abutters are welcome to attend and discuss the application.

Friday, January 23

5:00pm St. John School’s First Annual Family Ice Skating Party – Steriti Rink, 561 Commercial Street
Lace up your skates to celebrate St. John School’s First Annual Family Ice Skating Party! All funds raised at this event will be used to refurbish the St. John School gym floor. Any additional donations will be gladly accepted. The cost is $40.00 per family. View the event posting.

6:00pm NEAA Baseball Banquet at Nazzaro Center, 30 North Bennet Street
Following another banner year of youth major baseball (9-12-year-olds) the North End Athletic Association (NEAA) will hold its annual awards night. The banquet will start with John Romano Baseball Coordinator and Ralph Martignetti Baseball Director MCing the special event. Each player will receive an award and special awards in various categories will also be presented.

10:00am Dog Walk to Charlestown – Meet at Tennis Courts
Meet at the tennis courts at the corner of Commercial street and the “Charlestown Bridge.”Take the walk over the bridge to let the dogs play together – the long winter days take a toll on all of us, enjoy the walk, enjoy the sun and enjoy the company.

6:00pm CityFeast – Dining Out to Conquer Diabetes at North End Restaurants
Enjoy a chef-prepared five course dinner with wine pairings at your choice of one of Boston’s exclusive North End restaurants. Proceeds benefit Joslin Diabetes Center’s High Hopes Fund.
