Columbus Park Event on Monday, October 13th

What was the name of one of Christopher Columbus’s ships? The Queen Mary, the Titanic or the Nina?

That is one of the questions that will be part of a very unique “Scavenger Hunt” in Columbus Park on Monday, October 13, as the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) hosts its annual Columbus Day Celebration. The day will begin with a Kids’ Parade through the Park that will conclude at the statue of Christopher Columbus with a wreath-laying ceremony led by State Representative Aaron Michlewitz and Italian Consul General Nicola De Santis. Singers from the North End Music & Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) will perform.

“The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park encourages year-round activity at our Park and sponsors many free events,” explains event co-chair and FOCCP Vice President Ann Babbitt. “Thanks to the generosity of our members and sponsors, we are able to host an Independence Day Celebration, Sunday Free Movie nights, and, most importantly, our annual Trellis Lighting Ceremony where we bathe the trellises in blue lights from Thanksgiving through Patriots’ Day.”

The Columbus Day Celebration and other events and the trellis lighting are made possible by the support of Al Dente Restaurant, Boston PushCart, Benevento’s, the Chiofaro Co., CL Waterfront Properties, LLC, Joe’s American Bar & Grill, Marriott Long Wharf, NorthEndBoston.com, NorthEndWaterfront.com, Sunstone Hotel Investors, Inc., and Tia’s Restaurant.

FOCCP is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization comprised of North End and Waterfront residents and businesses whose purpose is to further the restoration, protection, preservation, care, enhancement, improvement and maintenance of the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. FOCCP works closely with the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department to keep the Park clean and well maintained, and with other City and State organizations to improve the Park to enrich the lives of both residents and visitors to Boston.
