ABCD Center Celebrates ESOL Graduating Students

The ABCD North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center (NE/WE NSC) offers three levels of English of Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Monday-Thursday 9:30AM-12:30PM to roughly 60 students each year representing 20+ countries of origin. Many come to the North End and West End to work and to take advantage of English classes to improve their English and access to job opportunities.

They recently celebrated with an end of year graduation party at their offices on 1 Michelangelo on June 24th, complete with certificates, food and refreshments, and a keynote address by Lia Tota, Director of the North End/West End NSC.

They are proud to report that:

• 53 students completed the program (received certificates).
• 3 students became citizens.
• 9 students found work.
• 3 students are furthering education and taking job training.
• 1 student obtained his HISET (formerly GED).
• 1 student got a learner’s permit and 1 student got a driver’s license.
• 1 student bought a home.

The ESOL program resumes classes in September. To register, please contact Gretchen Yochum, ESOL Coordinator, at 617-523-8125 or via email at gretchen.yochum@bostonabcd.org.
