The North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) voted 26-12 on June 12th to oppose a proposed zoning change at 420 Commercial Street that would allow a new eatery, Vesuvio, to operate in the space by restauranteur, Damien DiPaola (Carmelina’s and Vito’s). Attorney Daniel Toscano presented for the property owner at the site formerly occupied by the Segway tour company. Attorney William Ferullo also spoke on behalf of the expected restaurant tenant. Abutters generally spoke against the zoning change while others favored the benefits of activating the space that would include outdoor tables.
NEWRA’s vote comes after that taken on Monday by the Neighborhood Council (NEWNC). The application goes to City Hall for a hearing on June 17th.
