The patriotic parade kicked off the festivities.

On Saturday June 28th, the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) hosted their annual Independence Day Celebration in the beautiful 75 degree sunshine. This celebration was kicked off by Uncle Sam on stilts leading the “Kids Parade.” With the help of NEMPAC and a few volunteers, patriotic songs played as they marched around the park celebrating America’s birthday. Free American flags were handed out to all participants, who covered just about every age category.

The parade was just the start, the signing of the National Anthem was followed by T-Bone the Pied Piper who had the kids dancing and singing. The day was filled with events for the whole family, including Mr. Balloon Wizard, the Tanglewood Marionettes, a Magician, a performance by the North End Music and Performing Arts Center, and lawn games such as the bean-bag toss, tic-tac-toe toss, and hula hoops complete the day’s activities.
