The following news release is from MassDOT regarding the planned closing of I-93 South through Boston from Tuesday, April 8th at 11:00 pm through Wednesday, April 9th at 5:00 am for roadway sweeping, wall and sign washing.
MassDOT to Motorists: Plan Ahead for I-93 Restrictions through Boston
Complete Overnight Closure of I-93 Southbound is Tuesday, April 8 into Wednesday, April 9
BOSTON- Monday, April 7, 2014—This coming Tuesday, overnight into Wednesday, April 9, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s maintenance schedule will require complete lane closures of Interstate 93 Southbound through Boston.
I-93 SOUTHBOUND traffic will be detoured off of the highway at Rt. 38/Mystic Ave onto surface streets and allowed to re-enter I-93 Southbound at the Herald Street on ramp south of the Mass Pike. Traffic destined for I-90 Westbound will access the I-90 Westbound on-ramp just south of Kneeland Street. This closure gives maintenance crews access to the Lower Deck, Zakim Bridge and O’Neill Tunnel Southbound.
Maintenance crews, contractors, along with State and Boston Police will begin set-up for the closure on Tuesday evening at 11pm. The full closure will begin at midnight on Wednesday and last until 5am Wednesday morning. In the event of inclement weather, the closure will be postponed.
Work to be performed includes roadway sweeping, wall and sign washing.

I-93 Northbound Tuesday, April 15 from 11pm to Wednesday, April 16 at 5am
With the winter months behind us and as in past years, MassDOT will resume complete closures on I-93 in Boston on the first and third Tuesdays of each month beginning in May through the end of the year, weather permitting. The first Tuesday into Wednesday, the closure will be Southbound and on the third Tuesday/Wednesday the closure will be Northbound through Boston.
