Tenoch Mexican Opens February 10th on Lewis Street in North End

Tenoch Mexican finally opened on February 10, 2014 in Boston’s North End at 3 Lewis Street, according to an announcement on Facebook.  The North End restaurant with take out joins the Medford location, both owned by Alvaro Sandoval. Tenoch also operates a mobile food truck.

Tenoch will be the only Mexican restaurant in the North End and the first since the closing of El Triunfo at 69 Prince Street in 2012. The location was most recently clothing retailer Ball & Buck, previously a coffee shop, Flamepoeira, and years ago, Nick’s Tavern. The small space on Lewis Street is between Fulton and Commercial Streets.

Last year at the neighborhood meetings, the Residents’ Association (NEWRA) supported the application while the Neighborhood Council (NEWNC) opposed it. The Boston Licensing Board gave the final approval. Plans called for 22 seats and hours of operation from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. There was no request for an alcohol license at the North End location.

  1. Sweet!
    AWESOME!
    Can not wait!

… now all they need is an alcohol license so we can all enjoy a cerveza with our tacos

  2. As the owner of the building I want to welcome Alvaro and his great Mexican food to the North End. It took over a year for him to go through the permitting process between all the Neighborhood meetings, inspections from the many City departments, etc.
I asked Alvaro how long it took him to get a permit for his restaurant in Medford, would you believe a couple of weeks?
We have a new mayor who seems to be doing a very good job so far. Perhaps something can be done to expedite the permitting process for new businesses.

  3. I have sooooooo been looking forward to this place opening! I really want them to succeed and will be there on Monday for my badly needed Mexican food fix. Welcome, Alvaro, and all the best to you and your business!

  4. I frequent the Tenoch Cafe in Medford. Never disappointed with the cleanliness of the restaurant, food or the service. I think it will be a welcome addition to the NE.

  5. I just went there for lunch and they were already packed. I met Alvaro (the owner) and he was super-nice despite the really high pressure of opening day to a large crowd. I just inhaled a Torta Campechana and it was delicious. Great flavors and great value for the money (I got that and a Tamal de Mole and I am putting the Tamal off until mid-afternoon).
I may be going back or dinner…. 😉
