NEWRA Reports: President’s Report, Commitee News & Greenway Conservancy Update [Video]

It was a busy agenda at the February 13, 2014 meeting of the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA). This video post includes the President’s and Committee Reports.

(00:00 in video) NEWRA President, Jim Salini called the meeting to order.

(00:30) Nicole Leo from Mayor’s Walsh Office announced that Boston Shines is scheduled for May 10, 2014 in the North End. The annual cleanup generally meets at the Prado at 9:00 am before spreading out through the neighborhood.

(01:30) Jesse Brackenbury, Executive Director of the Greenway Conservancy, spoke about the latest activity at the Conservancy and announced a North End community workshop on March 12, 2014, 6:30pm at the Mariner’s House. In answer to questions, he also addressed prospects for Parcels 12 and 6, the North End ramp parcels. Those with interest in these areas should attend the workshop.

(12:30) Good Neighbor Recognition Award – NEWRA President Jim Salini announced that the February Good Neighbor award will be awarded to Mary Ann Contardo Tordiglione for her efforts in cleaning up the Gassy, DeFilippo Park.

(13:00) NEWRA is looking for a webmaster to help with the group’s website and email lists. Contact president@newra.org if interested.

(13:30) On March 3rd, 6:30 pm at City Hall (5th Fl.), the City Council will be holding a hearing on pick-up and put-out hours for residential trash. All those concerned about the trash situation in the North End are encouraged to attend.

(14:45) Membership Committee Report – Mary McGee

(15:15) Zoning, Licensing & Construction Committee Report – Victor Brogna reported on efforts by David Kubiak working with the West End and Beacon Hill neighborhoods toward a comment letter on the pending Government Center Garage project. (Ed: We hope to post the letter shortly.) In other ZLC business, an application for Eagle Bank on Hanover Street (next to Green Cross Pharmacy) was heard and the ZLC Committee wrote a letter of no objection.

Other updates at the meeting included the proposed Cycle Track, a report on Parks & Open Spaces and an update from the North End Beautification Committee.

There was one voting item for licensing at the meeting regarding 326-328 Commercial Street and the transfer of an all-alcohol license, 11:30 pm closing hour from the current owners of Davide Restaurant to Donato Frattaroli.
