David Kubiak, longtime chair of the Zoning, Licensing & Construction (ZLC) Committee for the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA), has announced that he is stepping down.
David has led the ZLC committee for ten years, often with co-chair Victor Brogna, who remains in that position. The announcement came this week at the January 9th NEWRA monthly meeting.
A thank you gift was presented by NEWRA President Jim Salini, on behalf of the organization.
In addition to the ZLC Committee leadership change, there were several reports and announcements at the meeting including a brief update from City Hall by City Councilor Sal LaMattina.
The video below shows the NEWRA January 2014 reports. The announcement by David Kubiak is at the 7:00 time stamp in the video.
The North End/Waterfront is fortunate to have leadership and involvement from someone as committed as Dave has been. I haven’t always agreed with him, but I’ve always respected his dedication to a better North End.
David has rendered exceptional service to the entire North End, both residents and visitors, for over 15 years. He championed thoughtful development that was supportive of the fabric of life that we all enjoy, and worked tirelessly to make sure that projects that benefited individuals at the expense of the neighborhood did not happen. under his leadership, the Zoning Licensing, and Construction Committee became a focal point for bringing these issues to the table. Well-conceived projects were speedily approved, those that would harm the community were identified and frequently modified, with the results being transmitted to the appropriate city offices.
We will miss David’s steady hand at the gavel of the committee, but we hope that his support of the committee’s activities will continue.
With great appreciation,
Forbes Dewey
Forbes Dewey’s comments are right on. Many thanks, David, for your years of terrific service to the neighborhood and to the city.

NEIGHBORHOOD COMMITTEE, BUT I AM HOPING & PRAYING YOU WILL BE LINING UP
COMMENTS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO MAKE WHILE BEING ON
THE COMMITTEE. YOU ARE AN OUTSTANDING ADVOCATE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD
AND I LOOK FORWARD TO ANY BENEFICIAL COMMENTS YOU MAKE REGARDING OUR
