Death Notice: Shirley Roberts of Boston

The North End Waterfront has lost treasured member of our community. Shirley Roberts passed away peacefully in the early hours on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, two weeks after celebrating her 89th year. Shirley was a lifelong resident of the Boston area, born in Brookline and graduated from Brookline High School. She and her late husband, Jack Roberts moved to the North End – Waterfront in the mid 1960’s. Jack predeceased Shirley in 2003. Shirley will be remembered as a simply wonderful, caring and gracious woman. She had many friends with whom she managed to maintain close and personal relationships. She loved entertaining, and did so frequently, respectfully listening to political views of others while of course offering her opinions. She was a member of the Friendly Living Group at Harbor Towers.

Her death creates a vacuum for countless people in the neighborhood and beyond. We will miss her smile, laughter, hearing her new ideas, sharing views on current events or books, or of her many interests. Shirley is survived by her lovely daughter, Louise Roberts Herrick of Savannah, grandchildren, Seth Kassels and wife, Stephanie of Wolfboro, NH, and Bret Kassels and Kayla of Boulder, Colorado, as well as three great grandchildren who lit up her life: Noah, Tobin and Sophia. She is also survived by many loving brother and sisters in law, nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street in Brookline on Sunday, December 8th, at a time to be announced.
