The Good Neighbor Recognition Award for November 2013 was awarded to the U.S. Coast Guard Base on Commercial Street by the North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA).
The presentation was made by NEWRA Recognition Committee Chair, Janet Gilardi, to Captain Timothy J. Heitsch, CDR Lara A. Allison and ITCM Michael Bumgardner.
The monthly award is voted by NEWRA’s Executive Committee and given to local businesses, organizations and property owners that consistently keep the areas around their property clean of trash and debris.

Thanks Matt~~Phil took a great photo~~~I’m very happy that the NEWRA Committee voted for the Coast Guard to win the Good Neighbor Award for the Month of December !! Sometimes we forget that this amazing organization lives right here in the North End !
There seems to be a huge mistake here. There are hundreds of cigarette butts on the corner of Hanover and Commercial Streets and there is always litter in the dark recessed corners of the building with the boat inside as well as behind the ugly yellow plastic barriers…it is quite shocking how dirty the sidewalks are outside of the coast guard gates and the trash is left there for days. Where there were once trees, there are grates and holes filled with rubbish. I walk by these buildings everyday. This award is not deserved if it is for “clean streets.”
