October is Italian Heritage Month

THE ANNUAL KICK-OFF EVENT this year will be held at the Grand Staircase of the State House from 10:30 AM–1:00 PM. Coro Dante will be performing the American and Italian anthems and other musical selections. A proclamation by Governor Deval Patrick will be read. Honored Guest: Consul General of Italy Giuseppe Pastorelli. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

October is Italian Heritage Month in Massachusetts. “Io sono felice di essere di origine italiana,” I say w/ much pride and honor of many past generations of my family who first settled in Pennsylvania from Sicily but quickly moved to the North End of Boston, where they lived and owned/operated a wholesale/retail meat and general produce store — long before the Great Molasses Flood of January 1919 impacted them. I have deep and loving roots in the North End.
