Traffic Advisory: Sullivan Square Underpass (Route 99 South) Closed This Weekend

CHARLESTOWN/EVERETT – ALFORD STREET BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: SULLIVAN SQUARE UNDERPASS (ROUTE 99 SOUTHBOUND) TO CLOSE THIS WEEKEND

Friday, June 28, at 7:00 PM to Monday Morning July 1, at 5:00 AM

In order to continue reconstruction work of the Alford Street Bridge, MassDOT needs to close the underpass through Sullivan Square that carries Route 99 southbound this weekend.

The closure will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28 and will reopen to southbound traffic by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 1.

During the closure, crews will be realigning the approaches to the new bridge so that vehicles heading from Everett to Charlestown/Boston will be rerouted on to the new bridge.

There will be no changes for vehicles traveling north toward Everett at this time.

During the closure, vehicles will be detoured through Sullivan Square to access Rutherford Avenue southbound.

Police details will be posted in Sullivan Square to help control and direct traffic.  MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays during the closure.  Drivers that must travel through the affected area should allow for extra travel time.
