The Old North Church’s annual Lantern Ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 14 at 8 p.m. This ceremony reenacts the events that began the American Revolution while honoring contemporary contributions to American values of liberty and freedom, a tradition dating back to 1875. The colorful ceremony includes representatives of local colonial militia, a color guard from USS Constitution, and the First Michigan Fife and Drum Corps. The First Michigan will offer a free performance in the Prado beginning around 6:30 p.m.
In 2013, the Old North Foundation is honored to co-sponsor the ceremony with Citizens Bank. This year’s featured keynote speaker will be Dr. Jill Lepore, professor of American history at Harvard and contributing writer at The New Yorker.
Tickets to the 2013 Lantern Ceremony may be purchased for $10 online at www.oldnorth.com or by calling the Old North Gift Shop at (617) 523-4848.
