A Boston Municipal Court set bail at $5,000 today and ordered alleged church burglar, Richard Shiner, to stay away from St. Leonard Church in Boston’s North End. The Suffolk District Attorney’s office recommended $15,000 cash bail and an order to stay out of the entire North End, pending trial.
Seen on video surveillance at St. Leonard’s on Tuesday morning, Shiner was arrested under a warrant for a break-in and theft at the church on December 6, 2012. (See North End Church Burglar Arrested by District A-1 Boston Police.)

Shiner already has 61 adult convictions as far back as 1984 including similar offenses at churches in 2010, according to the Suffolk DA’s office. Those cases were adjudicated at divisions of Boston Municipal Court with all of them resulting in a jail sentence ranging from 4 to 18 months.
Shiner returns to court on February 12, 2013.
