Volunteers Needed-Hot Meal Program ABCD North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center

The North End/West End Neighborhood Service Center (NE/WE NSC) is situated at 1 Michelangelo Street in Boston’s North End.  We provide a multitude of services and programs to low-income residents of the North End, West End and Beacon Hill.  Twice a week, we serve a hot, fresh, home-cooked lunch to seniors in the neighborhood and anyone needing a meal and companionship.  We are looking for two volunteers to help with shopping, food preparation, cooking, serving, and clean-up.

This really is a terrific opportunity to get to know the life-long residents of the neighborhood; apply your culinary skills; and to meet people who love the North End and cooking and eating good food!  Staff and volunteers eat lunch, too, and there is always time to chat over coffee and dessert.  One volunteer says, “I learned so much about the North End and its history, as well as Italian culture, and I’ve made new friends.”

There are additionally five holiday celebrations a year, such as the Thanksgiving celebration, which includes turkey, all the trimmings, coffee, and dessert.  We keep the atmosphere lively with entertainment such as accordion music and special guests, including local state reps and other City officials.  Mike’s Pastry and many other local establishments-too many to list-will donate dessert, baked goods, and other needed items.

Please contact 617-523-8125, Ext. 201, and ask for Lia Tota, Director, who is also available via lia.tota@bostonabcd.org  Ideally, we are looking for volunteers that can assist with the whole meal and volunteer 9-2 on a Monday and/or Friday, but we are flexible.  Grazie mille!
