Where were you when the earthquake happened? It was 7:12 p.m., when the 4.0 magnitude earthquake was felt throughout Boston, including the North End / Waterfront. The epicenter was about 30 miles from Portland, Maine at a depth of 3.1 miles. See the details on the U.S. Geological Survey website.

  1. Felt the earthquake this evening. My husband thought the furnace was exploding or the washer was going crazy. I said it was an earthquake. We live in Hartland, Vt.

  2. Hudson, NH. Walls rattled, pictures moved a bit. Looked outside and in the basement to see what was going on. Only lasted for a few seconds. A very different sound and experience, but could be mistaken for a crash of some sort or the furnace or hot water heater “blowingup,” or something catastophic. Unsettling. Now it’s over and we can talk about it for the next few days.

  3. I felt the whole house rattle and knew it was a quake.
    My pet parrot got the worst of it. She fell off her perch.
