A tip came in about a new use for tents in the North End … no, not for a tent city, but rather on the top of a roof deck. I grabbed my camera and, lo and behold, found a popup tent on the rooftop of this Prince Street building. One neighbor commented, “We are always complaining about rooftop/deck parties. It’s hard to believe any condo association would allow that. A strong wind could lift that tent up and send it crashing down on the street (or the nearby park filled with people). I’m hoping it doesn’t hit or kill anyone. Unbelievable.”

Hmmmm…wonder if this is an ISD violation ? it looks like it says T mobile on it…what is the regulation about advertising on residential roofdecks? This is a precedent that should be cut off at the knees.
what about the gas grills, they will burn the builidings down. The fire department should address it.
now add keg of beer and a firework display to the propane gas grill, under a tent all sitting on a roof where everyone is partying
I will go to the fire station to see what can be done to protect and keep safe all the people and family living in my building which unfortunately is right next door. We have all been put at risk
Now add a keg of beer, and a firework display, to the propane gas grill, to the large tent, on top of the roof where everyone is partying.
Unless someone calls ISD or the BFD…nobody will look into anything…. not the tent and not the grills. BTW…my understanding is that insurance companies will not cover a fire caused by an illegal rooftop grill. If this info is correct …if there is a fire the building owner or condo association will be out of luck.
I believe that that our Ciy Councilor is already looking into this matter.
what ever happened to just enjoying the roof and getting some sun and drying your laundry.. so sad what this neighborhood has turned into with these people.. god forbid that flys off the rooff and hurts somebody.. come on were are the building inspecters? isn't this illegal?
I"M going on my deck with baby/oil an iodine ..toooooo pray and BELIEVE ..i will always be on that roof …when we were KIDS …Now Parents @ grandparents…Only VIVA LA MADDOONA KNOWS …That's the last thing EDDIE said to me…Crying ..Viva La Sciacca…
snobs
It's an advertisement for T-mobile Someone must be getting paid for displaying it!
MY NEPHEW SAID THEY CALL IT MANILA MARKETING.
and another thing t mobile free advertisement for them? I say boycott that cell phone company.
Hi all,
My friend just sent me this article and I want to make sure everyone has the facts on this. I live at this address.
First, this is not a tent, it is just a canopy that we put up on the 4th of july because we were having some guests over and there was a threat of rain. It has already been taken down, and when it was up it was securely fastened to the roof so it would be impossible for it to fly off and do any damage whatsoever. Also, we’re not advertising for T-Mobile, I just borrowed the canopy from a friend.
Second, we have a small electric grill (basically a George Foreman grill) that we use from time to time. We do NOT have a gas or propane grill. Whoever is saying this is false, and the fire department has come to verify it.
I apologize for the canopy, I did not realize the uproar it would cause and I won’t put it up again.
Thanks for your time,
Mike
It has been taken down. Mike the condo owner/renter has posted an apology on the North End Waterfront web site.
WE HAVE TO ALL GET TOGETHER AND MAKE SURE ALL THE ROOF DECKS ARE SAFE A MONTH AGO AROUND 9AM A BEER BOTTLE ROLLED OFF OF 177 ENDICOTT STREET AND FELL BETWEEN MELLA C AND I WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN KILLED IF IT HIT ONE OF US ENOUGH WITH THESE NEW PPL THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THIS NEIGHBORHOOD AND IT HAS TO STOP I HAVE TO SAY THE POLICE ARE DOING A GOOD JOB KEEP THE NOISE DOWN AND RESPONDING THANKS TO OUR NEW CAPTAIN LEE AND SGT LEMA THANK YOU AGAIN AND REMEMBER DO NOT COMPLAIN JUST CALL 911 AND THE PARTY LINE WHEN THERE IS NOISE
Marie ReRe Tirella Bamonte Thank you so much for saying this. It is truly hazardous living here. Cops got bottles thrown at them the other night. Maybe now ENFORCEMENT will happen since the offenders are attacking authority. We need ENFORCEMENT. and this includes absentee landlords, because we cannot fault newcomers if original owners are not caring about their previous home. You're a model landlord!!
THESE KIDS AND THERE PARTIES. THREE WEEKS AGO THEY HAD A PARTY AND PUT A CHAIR AT THE RAILING THAT BLOCKED MY BASIL PLANTS FROM GETTING SUN!!! THE EATING ON THE ROOF WILL ATTRACT RATS AND MOUSES AND VERMIN. MY NEPHEW ANGELO HAS A ROOF DECK,,,AND HE NEVER EATS ANYTHING UP THERE.
I HOPE THE POLICE ARE READING IS AND STOP THESE KIDS FROM TEARING DOWN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD FROM THE INSIDE OUT
SAL,
I TOLD YOU NOT TO PUT OUR BUSINESS ON THE INTERNETS.
AND THAT BASIL PLANT HASN’T GROWN IN YEARS, EVER SINCE YOU SPRAYED IT WITH THAT WINDEX.
FIRST OF ALL ANGELO, LIKE I TELL YOU FOR YEARS, THE INTERNET IS A PLACE FOR THE PEOPLE. I CAN SAY WHAT I WANT. IF EVERYONE LISTENED TO YOU, THE PEOPLE IN THE MIDDLE EAST WOULD STILL BE BEING SHOT BY THE PALESTINIANS. TWITTER SAVES THERE LIFE.
SECOND OF ALL, THAT WAS MY OLIVE TREE. MARY PATRICIA TOLD ME THATS HOW HER FATHER GOT HUGE OLIVES IN THE OLD COUNTRY,,,BY SPRAYING WITH CLEANER. MINE DIED.
the tent or whatever you want to call it is down, the owner/renter? has apologized for the tent. Since I previously saw a gas grill on this roof I wrongly assumed it was still there. The fire department has checked this roof deck. The grill is electric, which i was told can be used. This may be permitted but having a party with drinking and grilling and adding fireworks to this mix is a recipe for disaster , enough said.
This is an accident waiting to happen.
It WAS an accident waiting to happen. The person who put the canopy up on the roofdeck has removed it and apologized to the neighborhood for upsetting people. So…unless he puts a canopy up again…this particular incident is over. Hopefully this incident will prevent other people from doing something similar.
