“Blue Fish – From Sicily to Boston” Event on October 18th at North End Branch Library

La Federazione Siciliana del Massachusetts welcomes the Region of Sicily, the Italian Costal Marine Institute of Italy IAMC(CNR) in presenting Pesce Azzuro, project Blue Fish. The event will be held at the North End Branch Library on Tuesday October 18, 2011 at 12: 00 PM / Noon.

Please contact Francesco Daniele at 617-817-2547 if you will be able to attend. The discussion will be followed by a tasting of Sicilian food.

The program will present the nutritional value of a category of fish, pesce azzuro, fished from the water surrounding Sicily and relative eco-compatibility issues. The commission will also focus on interacting with the permanent residents of Sicilian origin, tracing the values of these communities which have long since immigrated to the Boston area. A photo exhibition will also be available for viewing during the event.

The program will also focus on the eco-compatible development and conservation of the resources both via a case study from the Lobsterman Association of Massachusetts as well as the Mediterranean case.
The group plans on visiting Northeastern University, MIT/WHOO, amongst others to examine the scientific methods of improving the sustainability of this food category and developing a collaboration between the two regions.

Their visit will also include excursions in and around Boston with visits to Cape Cod to visit WHOO and other institutes focused on Oceanographic studies.

The project has received support from the Office of the Consul General of Italy (Boston), Academia Italiana della Cucina Delegazione di Boston, Massachusetts Lobsterman Association, Mayor Menino and Boston World Partnerships.
