North End Against Drugs/Nazzaro Center to Provide 12 Scholarships to North End Students

The NEAD Raymond and Michelina Scholarship Program will provide 12 scholarships to North End Residents.  Over 30 students applied this year and thanks to many generous donations we will be giving out $7,250.00 in awards.  The winners will be selected in a random drawing on Monday May 23rd at the Nazzaro Center’s Annual Spring Concert, which begins at 5:30pm.  Winners will be selected in 3 categories: College (1), High School (3) and Grammar School (8).  The college scholarship will be for $1000.00, the 3 High School Scholarships will be for $750.00 each and the 8 Grammar School Scholarships will be for $500.00 each.  North End Against Drugs is extremely grateful to the Nazzaro Community Center for contributing over $1700.00 to the program – without Nazzaro’s help the program would not be anywhere as successful as it is.  Thanks also goes out to several anonymous donors, Bill & Jennifer Lane, Boston Police Activities League – Billy Stoddard Director, NorthEndWaterfront.com and also friends and family of NSTAR – all of whom donated a $500.00 Scholarship, thanks also to Mr. & Mrs Vincent Sablone who also contributed to this years’ program.  North End Against Drugs also contributed over $1700.00 of the funds to round out the money needed to make this program successful.  We invite everyone who applied to attend the concert and be part of this wonderful event.  North End Against Drugs will also provide pizza for all attending the concert.

NEAD feels that education is an extremely important part of helping keep children on the right path in life and away from falling into the dangers of drugs and alcohol.  We strive to provide as many scholarships as possible to North End residents so we are extremely thankful to all who contributed this year and in years’ past.  Should you want to make a donation to the scholarship program for this year (it’s not too late) or next, please contact John Romano at (617) 880-9901.  Contributions of $500 or more will entitle the donor to have a scholarship named after them or their family or business.
