NEAD Receives City Grant for Summer Programs

North End Against Drugs has once again received a $5000.00 grant from Mayor Menino and Boston Center for Youth and Families to provide summer programming for North End youth ages 6 to 16. “We are extremely grateful to Mayor Menino and the staff of BCYF for giving us the opportunity to provide summer programming for our neighborhood youth.” stated NEAD president John Romano.

With the grant money received, North End Against Drugs will provide two programs again this year:

1) Arts & Crafts at Mirabella Pool – Every Thursday starting July 8 through the last Thursday in August, 1-4pm. You do not need to be a member of the pool to participate. Under the direction of Patricia Romano and Marlo Imbergamo, youths of all ages will be able to create a wide variety of crafts over the course of the summer. There will be a new craft each week. Every week there will also be things like sidewalk chalk, gymp, coloring and other things as well.

2) Sports Nights at Polcari Playground (Nazzaro Center) – Starting on Friday July 9th from 6-9pm, the day varies each week – here are the dates: July 9,15,19,26; August: 5,12,19,26 & Sept 3rd. Under the direction of Alfredo Vilar and Mikey Fud Giannasoli – there will be fun games each week. Boys and girls Ages 6 to 16 are welcome to attend and play. We will have jump rope and a few other special games as well as some of the regulars like whiffle ball, football, basketball etc.

There will be some type of refreshment each week at the sport nights for participants. There is no charge for any of the events. We will have an end of the year party on Friday September 3d from 6-9pm at the Polcari Playground. Any question, please contact John Romano (617) 880-9901.
