V. Cirace & Son and Salem Street True Value Win First “Good Neighbor Recognition Awards”

The April 2010 winners of the “Good Neighbor Recognition Award” are V. Cirace & Son and Salem Street True Value Hardware. These are the first awards as part of a new monthly program sponsored by NEWRA’s Clean Streets Committee (cleanstreets.newra.org). The awards are determined by the committee with the goal of recognizing businesses in the neighborhood who are good neighbors and take pride in the appearance of their business by keeping their sidewalk and especially gutters clean and clear of trash. Nominations come from committee members, residents and the businesses themselves and can be sent to cleanstreets@newra.org.  Winners are determined at the monthly Clean Streets meeting.  The Clean Streets Committee is also working with the North End Chamber of Commerce to have more smoke pots outside of businesses so the streets are less littered with cigarette butts. The first of the new smoke pots have been placed at strategic locations along Hanover Street, such as Caffe Paradiso.
