Here is a summary of the North End/Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) meeting held on Thursday, August 13th at the Nazzaro Community Center.

BRA Presentation of Cross Street Plan
Peter Gori, Senior Manager, showed the proposed 98 outdoor patio seats for the businesses on Cross Street between Hanover and Salem Streets in the space formerly occupied by Martignetti’s Liquors. Residents questioned much of the plan surrounding pedestrian access and the car lane that runs through the plaza area. Parking issues were also discussed. More details can be found on this previous post.
No vote was taken on this item, but a list of resident issues was created for a follow-up letter by NEWRA. Interested residents should email peter.gori.bra@cityofboston.gov with their own comments and cc their email to exec@newra.org.

113 Salem St., Arthur Caras, Zoning Relief Application to Board of Appeals
The building owner is seeking zoning relief for a two story expansion of existing barber shop, including a roof deck. There was discussion regarding a potential compromise between abutters at 44 Prince Street and the applicant. The applicant indicated the need for open space has been reduced, allowing for a redesign of the roof deck area potentially less offensive to abutters. The abutters requested applicant defer hearing currently scheduled on August 18th. The applicant refused to defer his application.
Vote: 5 Support, 33 Oppose – NEWRA Opposes the Application
14-16 Parmenter St., Pagluica’s Restaurant
The restaurant is seeking to expand into its basement area with 16 seats. It has also applied to amend its beer, wine & cordials license to serve those 16 additional seats.
Vote: 31 Support, 7 Oppose – NEWRA Supports the Application

115 Salem St., Giovanni Grimaldi, Manager
This is for a change of use application to Board of Appeal for a coffee shop with pastry, ice cream and take-out service in the space formerly occupied by Dave’s Curtains.
