Nick Varano received unanimous support from the North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council, NEWNC, for a new beer, wine and cordials pouring license at Nick’s Famous Deli on 66 Cross Street.

Business has been slow at the deli, according to Varano, who said the Cross St. plaza location has not been a successful location to date. Across from the Greenway, several businesses opened in the plaza formerly occupied by Martignetti’s Liquors. The store was up for sale, but Varano has taken it off the market to continue operating the business with the additional beer and wine service.

Mr. Varano noted that he is not sure a license is available from the Licensing Board. However, this is the time of year when other establishments might not have renewed their license for another year, freeing up licenses under the cap determined by the State.
