162 Endicott St. Receives NEWRA Support of Zoning Relief Application

The North End / Waterfront Residents’ Association (NEWRA) heard a zoning relief application by Glen Taylor for 162 Endicott Street on June 9, 2011. The request asks to legalize an existing basement and first floor duplex condominium unit built in the 1980’s without a building permit.

The current owner purchased the building four years ago, citing no knowledge of the situation. As a result of recent flooding and subsequent repairs, the oversight of a building permit was realized with a low ceiling height violation, under the 7.5’ minimum. Code enforcement is requiring the owner to lower the floor to comply.

At the NEWRA meeting, an egress issue was discussed for an adjacent property on Thacher Court. The owner has agreed to provide for the egress and has cleaned up the area.

NEWRA members voted to support the application, 18-3. A Zoning Board of Appeals hearing is scheduled for August 23, 2011.
