Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion Opening Ceremony on June 2, 2011

After 18 months of construction, the Boston Harbor Islands Alliance and National Park Service are putting on the final touches for the grand opening of the Boston Harbor Islands Pavilion on the Greenway, across from Christopher Columbus Park. The Pavilion will serve as a gateway to the islands which are accessible from the ferry terminal across the street at Christopher Columbus Park and Long Wharf.

The Harbor Islands Pavilion opens on the Greenway on Thursday, June 2, 2011 with a ceremony planned for 11:00 a.m. Officials from the Boston Harbor Islands Alliance, National Park Service, Governor Deval Patrick, Mayor Thomas Menino and Vicki Kennedy. The pavilion is located on the Wharf District Parks, Parcel 14 of the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway, next to the carousel on Atlantic Avenue.

  1. I am thinking someone missed the old Elevated Artery when designing this pavilion. It’s a contoured concrete deck, or elevated concrete swale, I thought the architectural horrors of the 60s and 70s made us all realize that concrete as a finishing material and over our head did not give people a warm feeling. I hope they skateboard proof that roof with expensive solar panels. I am very disappointed in this (shoved down the neighborhoods throat) design. Thanks Greenway Conservancy for this Pork Barrel gift we did not need. Can't wait till 40 years from now when concrete chunks start falling on my grandkids heads.
