An Interactive Bloom Tracker for the Rose Kennedy Greenway now lets visitors locate and learn more about flowering perennials across the park.
The tracker was created in partnership with Boston company WorkReduce, which provides the technology for this interactive data visualization project that graphs more than 300,000 data points and over 800 varieties of plants.
“The Interactive Bloom Tracker is an innovative way for visitors to explore the park online and plan their visit to unwind in our healthy, organically-maintained gardens,” said Jesse Brackenbury, Greenway Conservancy Executive Director. “We so appreciate the partnership with our generous neighbor WorkReduce.”
Visitors can now see which Greenway flowers are typically in bloom during any time of the year, in addition to names of and details about each species. Note that the data, gathered over the 2019 season, represent most of the park, but does not include Armenian Heritage Park, the Greenway Meadow, bulbs, or other annuals.
Landscape architect, Greenway Conservancy volunteer and consultant to the project Daniel Norman added, “It’s so exciting to see hundreds of hours of volunteer data collection so elegantly represented in this application. It’s gratifying to see the years of work come to fruition in such an engaging way.”
The project is part of a new initiative to increase visitor engagement with the Greenway through interactive geo visualizations.
